What can I do if my insurance claim is rejected?

Have you recently had an insurance claim rejected? While this can be extremely frustrating you shouldn’t lose hope. Just because your claim was denied the first time, doesn’t mean you aren’t entitled to insurance benefits. In this article, we will explore some of the key reasons insurance claims are denied and what you can do about it.

Why was my insurance claim denied?

Insurance claims are declined for many reasons. The insurance company will make it as hard as possible for you to receive an insurance payout. It’s nothing personal, that’s just their job.

Often a rejected claim simply comes down to an understanding of insurance terminology and how the industry works. Life Matters Claims’ CEO Kate, says “Sometimes our clients don’t understand how important wording is and they’ll write something down not realising this will affect their claim.”

There are a variety of small technicalities such as this that can be used to deny your claim. Often it will all come down to the wording in the terms and conditions. Without a clear understanding of your entitlements, it is difficult to argue against a rejected claim and receive the full amount that is owed to you.

Can I ask an insurer to review my claim?

You have every right to ask an insurer to review your claim if you have new evidence to add to your claim. At Life Matters Claims we can help you collect this relevant evidence and argue your claim for you.

What if my insurance claim is rejected more than once?

Kate says that while some of her clients have been informed that they cannot review a claim if it has been rejected more than once this is not the case. She says, “If you have new evidence the insurance company has to review your claim.”

It is natural after more than one rejected claim to become frustrated and consider hiring legal aid. This is not necessary. Hiring a lawyer can be expensive and won’t guarantee your claim is approved.

If you feel the Insurer has unfairly declined your claim, Life Matters can help you know where you stand and what further action can be taken.
